I wouldn’t say that I am your typical “opera goer” 🙂 That said, I was happy to have a girls night out with some of my friends to see Appomattox at the Kennedy Center. This operas commemorates 50 years since the Voting Rights Act and 150 years since the end of the Civil War.
Saturday night was the world premier at the Kennedy Center. The opera, by Philip Glass and Christopher Hampton, initially debuted in 2007 in San Francisco, but ACT II was completely rewritten in this rendition.
It is a riveting and emotionally charged rendition of these historical events and one that undeniably has the Philip Glass signature.
